The Hamrick/Calvert Connection in California
Hamrick descendants are literally all over the world. I recently called on one who is listed in the telephone directory in my small island and he kindly provided me with a generous amount of Hamrick History and a complete genealogy of his Hamrick's. Another Hamrick enthusiast has created a tremendous website called the Hamrick Holler. My Hamrick's ended up in Amador County, California and I was able to visit their burial places last year which is when I was bit by the Hamrick Hunt. Here is a portrait of Jesse Calvert Hamrick, who's great-grandfather was George Calvert, who should be the 7th Lord Baltimore.
Jesse Calvert Hamrick and his wife Elizabeth Wisdom Rhodes had 11 children, several born in Missouri, where they first lived and the rest of their children were born in Amador Co. California. Their daughter Sarah Ellen Hamrick was one of the first Hamrick's born in California. Sarah was born in 1853, preceeded by her older sister Consumnes California Hamrick who was born practically the minute they arrived in California, in 1852. Sarah went to school in Amador Co. and fell in love with her teacher Frank Martin who had come overland by ox train, to become a wagon driver from Stockton to Virginia City, and then took employment as a teacher in Amador, California.
Jesse Calvert Hamrick is buried next to his wife Elizabeth Wisdom Rhodes in Ione, California in Amador Co. California. Next to them are Mariah Calvert and Nimrod Hamrick, Jesse's parents.
