His maternal grandfather was a Mr. Chun Ming of Northern China, arriving here at an earlier unknown date.

Also searching for information on Grandmother Ah Len Pong Akana, born in April 12, 1899 in Kona, in a pili grass hut, near the ocean. Ah Len was a master lauhala weaver, and was hanai (adopted) by Kong Shin Akana and his "Hawaiian Lady" wife. Ah Len was born to Liu (Liao) Kau aka Akau and Ah Choy Lum (Lum Shee). Tam Shu Ching and Ah Len Akana were married on May 9, 1914 when Ah Len was 15 years old at Kealakekua, Hawaii. They had 17 children altogether.
